Hamburg offers young entrepreneurs all kinds of opportunities to present their companies and business ideas. Certain pitches offer the winners cash prizes whereas others focus mainly on networking. At any rate, the competitions are exciting and nerve-wracking means of pressing ahead with an idea.
1. Uni Pitch Challenge – apply now!
The Uni Pitch Challenge on November 16, 2016 in Forum Finkenau focuses more on the presentation rather than the business idea. The event is organised jointly by universities and colleges in Hamburg as well as research institutes. The target group is students, former students, and academics in every field, founders, start-ups and interested companies based in Hamburg. A total of four participants or teams present their work, projects and concepts to an audience and receive tips from professional coaches on stage. Applicants have until October 31, 2016 to enter the Uni Pitch Challenge. The winner receives a cash prize.
2. Music WorX Day – creative business ideas
The Cultural Authority Hamburg and the Hamburg Kreativ Gesellschaft are holding a start-up pitch for creative business ideas in the music industry during the Music WorX Day on November 30, 2016. Music WorX Day is the final of the 12-week Music WorX Accelerator. Hamburg-based participants in the accelerator and young music companies from all over Germany can pitch for the prize of EUR 5,000. Participants present their business ideas to a jury of music experts and potential investors. The application phase has already ended.
3. Webfuture Award – a must for start-ups in the digital industry
The Webfuture Award is a must for start-ups in the digital industry. Ten start-ups compete in the final of the contest by nextMedia.Hamburg. Apart from cash prizes worth up to EUR 8,000, the winner also gains contacts to investors and experts in the digital and media sectors. Past winners received up to three, free working places in betahaus Hamburg. KPMG will advise the first, second and third prize winners. The application phase for the Webfuture Award in May 2016 began in March.
4. Hamburg Innovation Awards – ideas, start and growth
The presentation of the Hamburg Innovation Awards is a highlight of the Hamburg Innovation Summit (HHIS) and has been held in the Center of Applied Aeronautical Research (ZAL) in Finkenwerder since 2016. The Hamburg Innovation Awards are presented in the categories: ideas, start and growth. Another award, the Founders Prize for Sustainability, was introduced in 2016. Three finalists in each category vie for the award. The winners of the pitch in May 2016 won EUR 3,000 in cash. The application phase for the Hamburg Innovation Awards 2017 has not begun yet.
5. betapitch – a trip to Silicon Valley
Ten start-ups from the Hamburg Metropolitan Region compete in the betapitch Hamburg. The contestants have five minutes to convince a jury and audience of their concept. The winners get free working spaces in betahaus Hamburg or a wildcard for the Webfuture Award. The main prize qualifies for the final of the betapitch global in Berlin. The winner gets a cash prize of EUR 5,000 and a trip to Silicon Valley. The fifth betapitch Hamburg took place in June 2016. The application phase for 2017 has not begun yet.
6. Startups@Reeperbahn Pitch – media budget of EUR 100,000
Five start-ups can pitch their business ideas to potential investors during the Startups@ReeperbahnPitch held as part of Hamburg’s Reeperbahn Festival. The winners receive a media budget of EUR 100,000. Start-ups must submit a detailed outline of their business idea to qualify for the final. The event is organised by the private initiative Hamburg Startups. The application phase for the pitch in September usually begins in June.
