The second edition of the English-language magazine “gentle rain – and other reasons to love Hamburg“ went on sale Monday (July 17, 2017) at newspaper stands, in retailers and on gentlerainmag.com. Designed, edited and published by Die Bruder with Hamburg Marketing GmbH organising print and sales, the magazine offers guests and potential, foreign newcomers a fresh perspective on Hamburg. Malte Brenneisen, a partner in Die Brueder, said: “We assessed press reviews at home and abroad and have adjusted the design and formats in response to criticism. The new magazine provides greater orientation, longer pieces to read and even more in-depth views of Hamburg’s cultural scene.”
In search of The Beatles
The so-called bookazine has 100 pages and presents ways of life and young people’s work models as well as places off the beaten track. The editorial team presents encounters with the well-known barkeeper Tequila (Betty Kupsa, Chug Club) and the Space-Sergeants in Golem. Meanwhile, Arne Schulze, a journalist, went in search of truth in Hamburg’s east and stumbled over highly-complicated building plans. Jonathan Engel, a tenant who followed in the footsteps of The Beatles in the Reeperbahn, wrote the cover story focusing on the fab four’s legacy in Hamburg. Several photographs rekindle the spirit of the era.
Brenneisen explained: “We want to reach readers whose native language is not German – that applies to people in Hamburg and to those who do not yet know the city. For all those, we are venturing down remote paths leading to people with special ideas and life plans with the magazine.“
