Hamburg‘s creative industries more present than ever at SXSW

With a fully packed programme extended to three days and the largest German delegation, Hamburg‘s participation at South by Southwest (SXSW) was the biggest and most versatile ever. Held in Austin/ Texas each spring, SXSW is the most important US-Festival of the creative industries and its submarkets interactive/digital technologies, music, and film.

With a delegation of 70 heads, also the team of Hamburg‘s creative industries and Reeperbahn Festival was bigger than ever, making Hamburg the largest German delegation participating at SXSW.
Hamburg‘s three-day presentation started with the Hamburg Interactive Day, with Spiegel Online and Reeperbahn Festival directing SXSW panels and discussions with international experts such as Denelle Dixon-Thayer (Vice President Legal, Mozilla, U.S.A.), Elizabeth Stark from the Yale Law School/ Connecticut, and Claudia Helmig, founder of Dawanda, an online market place selling self-made products. During the SXSW edition of the Startups@Reeperbahn-Pitches, the three Hamburg companies Tinnitracks, Flying, and Protonet promoted their business ideas to US-American investors and providers of venture capital.
At the SXSW trade show, Hamburg-based companies took the opportunity to present their products and services to international visitors. Highlight of day three, i.e. the Hamburg Music Day, was Reeperbahn Festival‘s showcase evening with the Canadian band Arkells, the US-American electro pop band Little Daylight, the Swedish band Invasn from this year‘s cultural capital Umeå, the German math rock duo DŸSE, the British band Cloud Boat, and the psycho punk rock band La Femme from Biarritz. An informal get-together that has become quite a Hamburg tradition concluded both the Hamburg Interactive Day and the Hamburg Music Day. The
networking event Reeperbahn Hamburgers brought together international guests with the hosts from Hamburg‘s creative industries, thus initiating first contacts and talks, while the Hamburg artist Tensnake performed a DJ set.
