The Cultural Authority and the Hamburg Kreativ Gesellschaft is offering support to firms heading to the (SXSW) next spring, according to an announcement Tuesday (October 11th). Around 70,000 professionals attend the fair every year. SXSW is the world’s biggest international digital, media and music conference and takes place in Austin, Texas. Support for smaller firms

Creative companies based in Hamburg, who wish to take part in South by Southwest (SXSW) from March 10-19, 2017, have until November 7, 2016 to apply to the Hamburg Kreativ Gesellschaft for financial support. The EUR 2,000 in funds will go towards a flight and accommodation. Carsten Brosda, State Councillor for Culture, Media and Digital Affairs in the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, said: “The SXSW is the ideal framework. We are supporting smaller firms to give them this opportunity as well.“

Basis of international expansion

Hamburg has presented the city and its start-ups nine times already at SXSW. Financed by the city of Hamburg and organised by the the Interressengemeinschaft Hamburger Musikwirtschaft e.V. and the Reeperbahn Festival, firms in Hamburg that are also travelling to Texas can take part in networking events, presentations and music showcases. Egbert Rühl, Managing Director of the Hamburg Kreativ Gesellschaft, said: “The participation offers many firms in Hamburg the opportunity to make valuable contacts and to network across borders.“ The foundations of international expansion are often laid during the many events in Texas, he noted.
