Two Hamburg Flagships Honoured with Location Award

The winners of this year's Location Awards were named. In 2015, they include two famous names from the Hanseatic city: the Hotel Atlantic Kempinski and the floating "Cap San Diego"

For the sixth time, the locationportale GmbH granted its coveted trophy in eight categories. The winners were determined in two stages. In 2015, more than 400 locations applied for the Location Award. From this pool, event planners and specialists from the live communication industry selected their favourite venues via online voting. In a second step, the nominated venues were evaluated by an independent jury of experts according to subject-specific criteria. For the first time in the award’s history, also 30 meeting planners from the United Kingdom were among the guests. The ceremony was the perfect setting to showcase to the UK event planner Germany’s top locations at close and to interact with top German MICE specialists.

A Hanseatic Landmark

In the category “event venues of hotels”, the Hotel Atlantic Kempinski successfully competed against Stue from Berlin, the Egerner Alm Rottach-Egern and Villa Kennedy in Frankfurt am Main. Hotel director Peter Pusnik received the award for the Hamburg-based hotel on the banks of the Alster. With its globe on the roof and Udo Lindenberg as celebrity guest, the Atantic is a true Hamburg landmark.

Location of the Hamburg Press Ball

Originally built in 1909 a a five-star hotel for cruise passengers, the hotel underwent an extensive 30 million euro renovation a few years ago. With 221 rooms and suites and stylish salons for up to 1,200 guests, the hotel is also one of Hamburg’s top venues for meetings and events. Each year in January, also the renowned Hamburg Press Ball is being celebrated at the hotel.

Onoard High Ropes Course

In the category “unusual places”, the MS Cap San Diego made the race ahead of Münster’s Brillux-Festhalle and a Hamburg competitor, Kai 10. Built in 1961 for the shipping company Hamburg Süd, MS Cap San Diego today is the largest seaworthy museum freighter of the world and one of the main attractions of the maritime city. The ship can also be chartered for customer journeys. In addition to the living room and the pool deck, the hatches 3 and 4 can be booked for events, concerts, receptions for up to 500 guests. For team events, the ship also offers on-board high-ropes course, where participants can balance on a wire 30 metres above sea level.
