Rad Hamburg 2018 to focus on e-bikes

Hamburg Messe opens doors to bike enthusiasts

The first RAD Hamburg gets underway in Hamburg’s fairgrounds from February 7-11, 2018 targeting e-bikers and those keen on active holidays. The 3,600 square metre exhibition areas will showcase the latest models, equipment, accessories and cycling gear. Bernd Aufderheide, Chairman of the Management Board of Hamburg Messe und Congress, said: “Cycling is becoming increasingly important in urban mobility. The next few years will see plenty of change. Bike trips are also popular active holidays among people of all ages. The fair will showcase a broad range of bikes and the latest equipment under one roof for bicycle fans.” Enthusiasts can try out different brands of e-bikes and pedelecs on a 900-square metre test track.

From Venice to Beijing

The programme also includes fascinating talks by long-distance bikers such as the adventurer Peter Smolka who has travelled across Russia in the freezing cold and toured Africa in searing heat. Smolka has cycled over 88,000 kilometres and travelled to 68 countries. Axel Brümmer and Peter Glöckner were inspired by Marco Polo’s travels and have cycled from Venice to Beijing n his tracks.

Heinz Stücke, 75, is considered the most travelled person in history. The adventurer has cycled nearly 700,00 kilometres on his three-gear bike in 54 years and travelled to every singly country on Earth. Stücke has seen many a change and things that no longer exist. He will talk about these and other adventures during RAD HAMBURG.
