MICE Increases its Economic Importance in Hamburg

Hamburg Metropolitan Region to presents itself at the international trade fair for the congress, meeting, event and incentive industry IMEX

From 19-21 May 2015, the assets of the Hamburg Metropolitan Region will be showcased at Frankfurt’s IMEX by the Hamburg Convention Bureau (HCB) and 17 partners. The international trade fair for the congress, meeting, event and incentive industry (MICE sector) is an important international platform for the Hamburg Convention Bureau and the local meeting industry.

736 Million Euro of Revenue by MICE Events

The MICE industry is becoming an increasingly important economic factor for Hamburg. According to a study by the Hamburg Convention Bureau, the meeting and incentive industry accounted for about one fifth of the total tourist nights in Hamburg next to business and leisure travellers. The total gross revenue s generated by participants in MICE events in 2013 has been estimated at around 736 million euro by the HCB.

Increasing Hamburg’s International Awareness at IMEX

To expand the market share of MICE and increase related revenues, the Hamburg Convention Bureau has been inviting 17 partners from the Hamburg Metropolitan Region to showcase their activities at IMEX under the roof of the Hamburg stand. The aim is to increase awareness of Hamburg as an attractive destination for the meeting industry and shape a positive image of the Hanseatic city.

Important International Industry Event

Frankfurt’s IMEX is the most important international trade fair in the field of MICE tourism. In addition to the HCB and its 17 partners, more than 3,500 international exhibitors will be presenting their range of services – including tourism associations and organisations, hotel chains, airlines, and destination management companies. Last year, the industry fair attracted more than 9,000 trade visitors, thus HCB. Trade visitors range from event planners working for associations, companies, ande agencies to business travel managers and marketing professionals.
