Last year‘s winner was also this year‘s number one. The Jachad youth center from Cologne won Jewrovision 2014 held in Hamburg for the very first time. The youth group convinced the jury with a perfect dance performance, strong lyrics and a great setting for their show. In the early morning hours, the youth from Cologne were granted the cup and applauded by 1,300 spectators that had enjoyed the contest at the Congress Center Hamburg (CCH). Trained at the Hamburg Stage School, Susan Sideropoulos presented the evening.
True to the motto “Bar Mitzvah“, 18 youth centres, and thus more than ever, participated in the largest Jewish song and dance competition in Europe. The Olam youth centre from Berlin came in second place, Chazak from the host city of Hamburg was named third winner. The special prize for the best video presentation was granted to the Amichai youth center from Frankfurt/ Main.
Modelled on the Euro Vision Song Contest, Jewrovision was launched in 2002. Then, 120 youths from six youth centres participated. In Germany, the contest has been hosted since 2013 by the Central Council of Jews. Today, Jewrovision is the largest event of the Jewish community in Germany. Each year, more than 45 youth centres with some 800 Jewish children and adolescents aged ten to eighteen from all over Germany
participate in the cultural challenge. Jewrovision 2014 was held under the auspices of Hamburg‘s First Mayor, Olaf Scholz, and the President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, Dieter Graumann.
