HMC to organise German pavilion at at Expo 2017 in Kazakhstan

HMC selected as organiser for the third time in succession

Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH (HMC) will organise and run the German Pavilion at Expo 2017 in Astana, Kazakhstan, on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. This is the third time in succession that HMC has been awarded the contract to organise preparation and conduct of Germany’s participation at a thematic global expo.

“We are delighted that we have once again been entrusted by the Ministry with this assignment,” says Bernd Aufderheide, President and CEO Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH. “It is a great honour for us to represent Germany and Hamburg in the world. And it is pleasing recognition of the good work of our teams, who also did this important work at previous global expos.”

Future Energy as Focal Theme

Expo 2017 will be held from 10 June to 10 September in Astana, with its focus on the theme “Future Energy”. That is a subject which is also reflected at many HMC events, such as WindEnergy Hamburg; gmec, the leading environmental summit of the maritime industries; and GET Nord, a leading trade fair for energy efficiency, building system engineering and facilities. The previous expo assignments of HMC addressed similar themes – for example Expo 2008 in Zaragoza, Spain focused on “Water and Sustainable Development”; and Expo 2012 in Yeoso, South Korea, addressed “The Living Ocean and Coast”. These are also subjects which are becoming more and more important at SMM, the leading international maritime trade fair in Hamburg. The German Pavilions run by HMC in Spain and Korea each received the Gold Award for the best realisation of the Expo theme.

Fourth Expo Particpation of HMC

Alongside the German Pavilions in 2008 and 2012, HMC also organised the Hamburg House at Expo 2010 in Shanghai. So Expo 2017 Astana will now be the fourth international expo with a German Pavilion organised and run by a team from Hamburg Messe und Congress.
