Highlights of Internorga 2016

Live challenges, truckers talk, food workshops - special 90th edition of Internorga for visitors

Around 1,300 exhibitors from the hotel trade, catering, bakeries and confectioners from 25 countries are due to present their latest products, innovations and trends at the 90th Internorga, Europe’s leading trade show for food service and hospitality, at Hamburg Messe from March 11-16, 2016. Professional visitors can expect an accompanying programme full of highlights.

Personal cookbook

The Internorga will launch a new cooking competition with celebrity chef Johann Lafer. Six young chefs from Germany, Austria and Switzerland will compete live during the “Next Chef Award” at Internorga from March 12-14, 2016. The competitors will receive four identical ingredients and have 60 minutes to cook an original main course from them. Every day, two winners will be chosen to compete during the final on March 14 when a top-class jury will judge their skills. Johann Lafer will, of course, watch the competitors’ endeavours. The first prizewinner gets a chance to publish their own cook book with Teubner Verlag, perhaps putting them on the road to a successful career.

Catering start-up pitch

The first day of the catering start-up competition at Internorga will be held by Tim Mälzer and the Leaders Club Concepts (LCC). Six, pre-selected finalists will present their innovative catering concepts live at the fair. An audience of professionals will select the best concept. The winner will receive a loan of up to EUR 50,000, advice from LCC expects as well as admission to Internorga food service events.

The ECE Group (Germany’s largest operator of shopping centres) will offer the winner a place in one of their German shopping centres. The finalists are plain food caterers “Muttis” from Bernau, near Berlin, the gluten-free patisserie Isabella” from Düsseldorf, the restaurant sharing concept, “Laden ein” from Cologne, the Peruvian restaurant “La Cevicheria”, and the health snack caterers “What the Food!” from Frankfurt and Berlin’s innovative ice-cream maker “Wood Wood Ice Cream”.

International Craft Beers

This year will see the second round of Craft Beer at Internorga. A total of 30 creative breweries will be on hand in Hall B4 including many newcomers who will be attempting to boost their sales on the German and European markets.

Good food start-up trend

During the run-up to Internorga, industry experts will meet on March 10 at the 35th International Foodservice-Forum. Gordon Faenrich of Subway Deutschland, Holger Beck of McDonald’s Deutschland and multi-channel-entrepreneur, Michael Käfer will give talks on topics such as “Think fresh & reinventing yourself: Consumer trends, market potential, success factors” (Frisch denken & sich neu erfinden: Konsumtrends. Marktpotenziale. Erfolgsfaktoren). Chris Sanderson, from The Future Laboratory in London, will focus on consumer behaviour while Laura Koerver, a culinary entrepreneur, will look at good food start-ups which are proving a mega trend.

“Truckers Talk“ in Food Truck Village

The Internorga Food Truck Village on the fairgrounds will highlight future-oriented concepts such as mobile canteens from March 12-14. The exhibitors will answer questions during “Truckers Talk“. The menus at the trucks are varied and there is plenty to taste. The programme is co-ordinated by Lunch Karawane, on which Hamburg News reported earlier.
