Hamburg to Showcase its Assets at Leading MICE Fair

Like products competing for customers or potential buyers, also cities are competing for skilled workers, tourists, and business travelers

To present Hamburg’s broad, multifaceted and powerful range of business tourism opportunities to a targeted international audience and to raise the city’s profile further, the Hamburg Convention Bureau GmbH (HCB) will be representing Hamburg at the ibtm world – the leading trade fair of the MICE industry (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, Events) from 17 to 19 November.

Important Economic Factor

The ibtm world is held annually in Barcelona and connects around 15,500 trade visitors with more than 3,000 international exhibitors. This industry event provides the ideal setting for positioning the Hanseatic City of Hamburg in the competitive world of business travel destinations. With around one fifth of total tourist overnight stays attributable to business travel (2013) and a total gross turnover of over 736 million euro (2013), promotable business tourism is a key economic factor in Hamburg and continues to hold huge potential. Trade fairs such as the ibtm world offer the opportunity to showcase the city’s strengths and generate business for Hamburg as a destination while harnessing the city’s untapped potential.

International Target Groups In Focus

Thorsten Kausch, managing director of the Hamburg Convention Bureau GmbH and Hamburg Marketing GmbH stresses the relevance of Hamburg’s presence at the trade fair: “For a large city such as Hamburg, it is important to expand and to sustainably promote the key economic segment of MICE tourism. With our presence at the ibtm world we focus on reaching out to relevant international target groups, which provides the basis for transforming the MICE location of Hamburg into an international top destination in the conference and convention business. What is more, the economic power of this industry generates additional value added e.g. by enhancing the image of the city and its science system and by strengthening Hamburg’s economic clusters.”
