With a final concert in Wismar’s Saint George Church, this year’s Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern ended their summer season on a very positive note. In total, 75,000 guests, and thus 2,000 more than last year, enjoyed the festival between 20 June and 19 September. Thus, the festival has not been celebrating its 25-year anniversary, but also a record number of visitors this year.
100 Events Sold Out
The accompanying programme of the music festival also enjoyed great popularity, with seven “outings” fully booked along with the three-day festival “360° Viola”. The “Pavilion of tCenturies”, too, which was devoted to a different period each of the three days, was an audience favourite. In total, 100 of the 124 event held in summer were sold out. Festival director Dr. Markus Fein thus draws a positive balance: “Our anniversary season has shown that not only our festival, but also our audience has remained curious like on our first day.”
The programme of the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is made possible by its many supporters, including the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe Mecklenburg-Vorpommern as partner and AIDA Cruises, Radeberger beer brewery, Mercedes-Benz, arcona Hotels & Resorts, WEMAG AG, NORDMETALL Foundation and the Körber Foundation as main sponsors along with numerous regional and national concert sponsors and the Northern German broadcaster NDR. Public funds are provided by the federal state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania as well as local counties, cities and municipalities.
For the entire festival year 2015, the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern even expect more than 80,000 visitors, with the New Year’s concerts, the Rügen spring festival and the Advent concerts that are still going to take place in Stolpe and Ulrichshusen from 4 to 20 December also being taken into account.
