57th hanseboot ends with clear, future goals

Slightly fewer visitors than in 2015 - fair to target younger visitors in 2017

Some 520 exhibitors from 20 nations presented their products and services in Hamburg’s fairgrounds and at the in-water hanseboot in Sandtorhafen from October 29-November 6, 2016 during the 57th hanseboot fair, a press release said Monday (November 7). The fair highlighted around 450 boats and equipment for professionals, leisure boaters and newcomers. A whole series of innovations were on offer in response to the current boat market. Visitors showed very good acceptance of the new opening hours on weekdays from 12 am to 8 pm, and for the greater prominence given to refit, fittings equipment, accessories and fun sports. However, visitor numbers (68,000) were lower than the 72,000 in 2015.

Churning up young people’s interest in water sports

“We still have to respond to the challenge of the current market and interest situation with new concepts and ideas,” said Bernd Aufderheide, President and CEO Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH. He added: “We have already taken action – in particular with changes in the opening hours. That means people can come to hanseboot after they have finished work. A large proportion of exhibitors said how pleased they were to gain many excellent customer leads after 17:00, and reported good business.”

Heiko Zimmermann, hanseboot Project Director, noted: “The situation varies from one sector to another. Exhibitors from equipment and fittings, accessories and fun sports are very satisfied with their results. Some of the boat exhibitors are feeling the impact of the market situation. The conclusion we draw is that we need to make a special effort to attract more young people to water sports. That will play a big part in our thinking for the next hanseboot.”

Date of hanseboot 2017 already set

hanseboot is emphasing refit and has bought the brand rights for the BOATFIT show. This year’s refit centre featured top-quality, expert presentations and practical workshops, and was much appreciated by visitors. Zimmermann remarked: “That shows the importance of refit, and how much demand there is for information on the subject. The used boat market is currently the biggest market for boats. Newcomers can buy used boats at very favourable prices, and can get them back into shape themselves, if they have the necessary DIY skills.”

The hanseboot 2017, the 58th Hamburg International Boat Show, will be held from October 28-November 5, 2017. The ancora boat show will be held at the ancora marina in Neustadt-Holstein from May 26 to 28 2017, run by the hanseboot team.
