Süderelbe AG celebrates first ten years of interstate co-operation

On 22 December 2004, Hamburg and Lower Saxony signed a co-operation agreement with counties and saving institutes as partners in the first interstate co-operation in Hamburg's south

Since then, Süderelbe AG has been actively supporting and promoting the economic development and put to practice a key idea of the Hamburg Metropolitan Region: to overcoming county and country borders for the benefit of a sustainable and shared economic development of the region, its enterprises, and its people. Süderelbe AG’s policy is thus marked by the claim “value – economic growth – jobs”.

In the past ten year, Süderelbe AG has implemented numerous projects with great success, accompanied the creation of 5,000 jobs in the region, and developed into the market leader of commercial and industrial sites in the southern metropolitan region of Hamburg. In 2014, the “Smart Region” project has been jointly set up by the Hanseatic city of Lüneburg, the rural districts of Harburg, Lüchow-Dannenberg, Lüneburg, Stad, and Uelzen, and Süderelbe AG as project manager. Another milestone in 2014 was the launch of the talent initiative for young adults “Talentschmiede U20” with the rural district of Harburg. And on 1 December 2014, the region’s logistics award “Zukunftspreis Logistik” will be granted for the fourth time. Last but not least, the nutrition initiative foodactive e.V. successfully started activities also in the Hamburg Metropolitan Region.
