The international summer school “Bioprocess and Biosystems Engineering for Industrial Biotechnology” is hosted by the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) together with DECHEMA in Frankfurt. The summer school is the first in the field of industrial biotechnology and funded by the Sino-German Center for Research Promotion, a joint venture of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) and the National Natural Sciences Foundation of China (NSFC) . 18 Chinese and 28 German biotechnologists are participating. The summer school is organised by Prof. Dr. An-Ping Zeng from TUHH’s Institute for Bioprocess and Biosystems Engineering and Prof. Dr. Tan Tianwei from the Beijing University of Chemical Technology.
New and Efficient Biological Production Systems
The summer school will cover the entire width of the development of new and more efficient biological production systems. These include issues such as the system and synthetic biology, metabolic and protein engineering, biocatalysis, design and control of bioreactors and the bioproduct processing. Also on the agenda are current topics such as biorefinery and bioprocess integration. Participants have the opportunity to work in teams to develop concepts to solve real problems in industrial biotechnology. To this end, scientists were invited from both countries to give lectures.
A key objective of the summer school is to encourage exchanges between scientists and to create a communication platform. To this end, the participants will also join the “Sino-German Symposium on Biobased Chemicals and Biorefinery” on 7-10 October 2015 in Frankfurt / Main. An entertaining social programme rounds off the summer school.
