New Donation by Alexander Otto turns HSV Campus into Reality

The local businessman has donated ten million euro to Hamburg's first league club to help financing its new youth training centre

The HSV campus was initially planned to be financed through a 17.5 million-euro bond issued to Hamburg fans in 2012, but when the club hit financial troubles those funds were partially used to keep things afloat.

Now, lights turned green for the construction of the new HSV campus go. Former HSV Chairman Alexander Otto, CMO Joachim Hilke, sport director Bernhard Peters Sport and the Altona District Office’s director Dr. Liane Melzer have given the go-ahead, with the HSV Campus gGmbH founded as builder and owner by Alexander Otto and the HSV Fußball AG.

Completion Scheduled for Spring 2017

Preparatory works have already begun with laying the footpath and the supply of lines and grid connections on the plot. High construction will commence by the end of the year, with completion scheduled for spring 2017. ECE is providing the general plans, design specifications, and advisory services in compliance with a sponsoring arrangement. Commissioned for these works, Ronge Industrial has already presented a model of the future facade. Opposite the campus grounds, an additional artificial turf will be built by spring 2016. In future, the main campus building will thus be surrounded by six training grounds.

Nonprofit Projects to Be Supported

“The campus will allow learning, exercising and living in a confined space – with the young talents also having their aspiration right in front of their eyes: the club’s first league stadium. We thus optimise training and provide high motivation for players and coaches. Last but not least, the campus will have also the advantage of generating revenue from lease that will be used to support nonprofit projects within Hamburger Sport-Verein. Thus, the campus is a great investment”, rejoiced Alexander Otto at the start of construction.

Full-Service Campus

The campus buildings will feature locker rooms, weight rooms, physiotherapy and laboratory space, a dining hall, meeting and training rooms, offices and a lecture hall for up to 200 people. Offering full time care, the campus will not only improve the athletic, but also the personal development of the young people admitted to campus life and training. The complex will also comprise 17 residencies for boarders and rooms for 30 day students..

New Running Facilities for the General Public

On the roof, a photovoltaic systems with 36 modules will generate green energies, covering up to 20 per cent of the campus’ annual electricity needs. In addition, a public running facility with changing rooms and sanitary facilities for park athletes will be set up by HSV next to the campus grounds. “I am pleased that the HSV will enrich the public sports facilities in Hamburg’s Volkspark by the construction and operation of a running club. The changing rooms and shower facilities at the “Lauftreff” will make running in the public park for recreation even more attractive,” said the Altona District Office Head Dr. Liane Melzer.
