The successful French startup La Belle Assiette is now ready to conquer the German market. Modelled along standards set up by Airbnb, La Belle Assiette is the world’s first online market place offering a chef on-demand service. Founded by Giorgio Riccò and Stephen Leguillon in 2012 in Paris, users are invited to browse the site, find their chef, and book at meal, with the chef coming to their home and office, cook the meal and clean up the mess. The advanced search tool allows to filter the offers by price, food, popularity and other features. Menu prices start at a low 30 euro, but also offer gourmet experiences at more than 100 euro.
560 Chefs in Six Countries
Launched in September 2013 with 38 chefs, today more than 560 chefs in six countries are registered on the platform. La Belle Assiette has meanwhile opened in Belgium, Switzerland, Luxembourg and the UK, and has become Europe’s leaders in this category. The company was voted Best E-Commerce Innovation in 2012 by the Fevad next to Amazon, Voyages-SNCF and Sarenza. It also won the Push Forward contest organised by l’Express Group in November 2013. Since its launch, its sales have been steadily increasing every month, with two to three new chefs signing up each day. In February 2015, a new office was set up in Hamburg, headed by Lukas Loers, to conquer the German market. The first three months have been quite successful.
