Hamburg’s retailers are generally optimistic about the upcoming holiday shopping season. This is the result of an online survey of Hamburg Chamber of Commerce recently conducted among 257 Hamburg merchants. “According to the survey, particularly e-commerce will rise, while stationary trade is expected to perform more cautiously”, said Prof. Hans-Jörg Schmidt-Trenz, General Manager, Hamburg Chamber of Commerce.

The results in detail: In stationary retail, 27 per cent of companies expect higher sales than last year, 47 per cent expect at least the same turnover as in 2014. Just over one-quarter of respondents (26 per cent) anticipate declining sales. In online retail and selling via catalog, the mood is even more positive, with 47 per cent of respondents expecting higher sales, and only 15 per cent lower sales than 2014. Nearly 38 per cent of companies are predicting sales to hover around last year’s level.
The Hamburg Chamber of Commerce has been regularly conducting online surveys on the expectations of the Hamburg retail for the holiday season for the past eight years.
