6,974 Flats Built in Hamburg in 2014

Hamburg is constructing new homes for the growing city. Ambitious building programme shows first success

In 2014, a total of 6,974 residential units have been completed in Hamburg. These figures have just been released by the Hamburg Ministry of Urban Development and the Environment based on the annual count conducted by the Northern German Office of Statistics. Completion figures are again significantly higher than those of the previous year. In 2013, 6,407 housing units had been completed.

Construction of High Quality Housing at High Level

Dr. Dorothee Stapelfeldt, Hamburg Minister of Urban Development and the Environment: “Residential construction in Hamburg is still gaining momentum, and does so at a high level. That is also a success for the good co-operation of Hamburg’s 'Alliance for Housing’. With 6,974 new homes, we once again more than fulfiled oour goal of more than 6,000 units. That’s a good sign, because only new residential construction can sustainably relieve Hamburg’s strained housing market.”

Construction of New Housing Brings Along Relief

The report presented by the Hamburg Ministry of Urban Development and Environment entitled “Contribution of residential construction to residential care in Hamburg” shows that residential construction significantly relieves the housing market. Also, there is considerable leakage effects’ as 80 per cent of those moving into new apartments leave their previous homes, and thereby enhance the dynamics of the housing market.
