SMM 2016: "Green Propulsion" for maritime economy

2,100 exhibitors expected at leading international maritime fair in Hamburg. Environmental congress to focus on alternative propulsion systems

Over 2,100 exhibitors are expected at the world’s leading maritime trade fair (SMM) from September 6-9, 2016 in Hamburg. The biennial fair aims to cover all links in the value-chain in the maritime industry and this year’s focus will be on Green Propulsion. The global maritime environmental congress (gmec), has proved one of the most successful events in recent years, and will take place at SMM on September 6, 2016.

Investments in environmental technology

The environmental congress at SMM will focus on alternative propulsion systems, digital transport control and sophisticated measurement systems. Leading experts will discuss how to improve efficiency in shipping with reduced emissions.

The theme “Green Propulsion” reflects the current situation in the sector. Shipping companies have to offer their services at competitive prices. Thus greater efficiency and reduced fuel consumption are key factors. Yet, international standards necessitate investments in environmental technology. On top of that, clients expect firms to prove sustainable business activity.

Big data and alternative energy

The global importance of the theme is reflected by the many international experts who have confirmed their participation in gmec. Keynote speakers at the congress include Arsenio A. Dominguez of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Dr. Martin Stopford of Clarkson Research, Tom Boardley of Lloyd’s Register and Oskar Levander of Rolls Royce Marine. Their main focus will be on Harmful Air Emissions, Big Data and Alternative Energy.
