Bahn to invest EUR200 million in north Germany

Infrastructure in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein to be expanded. Travel information at building sites and railway blocks

Deutsche Bahn is to invest EUR 210 million in Hamburg und Schleswig-Holstein. An unspecified milllion euro sum will also be spent on maintaining routes and facilites, according to an announcement Friday by Deutsche Bahn and Hafen Hamburg. Last year, measures for EUR 200 million were implemtened including the renewals of 180 kilometres of railway tracks and 100 railway points. In 2016, Deutsche Bahn plans to build 240 kilometres of rails and nearly 60 railway points. During peak hours, there are up to 850 railway-related building sites througout Germany.

Travel information for customers

Renovations on two railway bridges at Berliner Tor in Hamburg are already underway. Berliner Tor is the intersection for the Hamburg–Berlin route and the suburban railway route connecting Hamburg Main Railway Station to Aumühle and the Hamburg–Lübeck route as well as platforms on the suburban railway route from Hamburg Main Railway Station to Poppenbüttel. All the building works, an investment of EUR 90 million, are due to last until late 2020, according to current plans.
