Hamburg’s seven Asklepios Kliniken are setting up the Asklepios Tumour Centre Hamburg (Asklepios Tumorzentrum Hamburg) where their combined skills will go towards fighting tumours, a press release said Tuesday (February 14, 2017). Joachim Gemmel, Managing Director of the Asklepios Kliniken Hamburg, said: “Malignant tumours are no longer a death sentence even when metastases form. Apart from early detection, good, co-ordinated interdisciplinary teamwork in all the required disciplines is important.”
Around 200 specialists treat some 16,000 tumour patients annually at the Asklepios Kliniken Hamburg. Each clinic will offer special consultation hours at the new Asklepios Tumour Centre to ensure care close to the patient’s home. The care of each patient is developed according to their needs and in co-ordination with all the specialists. A specialist at the clinics always provides a second, expert opinion in the event of complex tumours and diagnoses.
Together with doctors in the Hamburg Metropolitan Region, the Asklepios Kliniken Hamburg offers the entire medical spectrum – from diagnosis and therapies, after-care as well as psychological care. The clinics place great emphasis on co-ordinated interdisciplinary teamwork.
