Hamburg Airport triumphs at Skytrax World Airport Awards 2017 in "Best Regional Airport Europe“ category

Hamburg Airport has won the famous Skytrax World Award in the “Best Regional Airport Europe” category for the third time after victories in 2011 and 2012. The prize is based on an independent passenger survey and was presented at the Passenger Terminal EXPO in Amsterdam on Tuesday (March 14), according to a press release. The competing airports have been rated according to 39 criteria such as traffic connection, staff friendliness, waiting times in security, shopping and prices in airport restaurants.

Hamburg Airport comes 27 in top 100 worldwide

The win saw Hamburg Airport rise to 27th among the “World’s Top 100 Airports” from 40th position in 2016. The airport also rose to third position in the “World’s Best Regional Airport 2017” category after Centrair Nagoya in Japan and Cincinnati in the United States.

Michael Eggenschwiler, CEO of Hamburg Airport, accepted the prize in Amsterdam. A delighted Eggenschweiler said: “Our third 'World Airport Award’ shows that our staff do consistently good work. Now, we must keep the quality of our service at a very high level and make it even better. “

The Skytrax World Airport Awards were first presented 1999. Around 13.82 million passengers voted on 550 world airports this year. The prizes were presented in the categories “Best Airport Shopping”, “Best Airport Staff Service” and “Best Airport Terminals”. The prize in the “Best Regional Airport Europe” was first presented in 2011, which Hamburg Airport also won.
