Lufthansa Technik AG is setting up a new facility called Lufthansa Technik Middle East (LTME) in the Aviation District at Dubai South to complement the existing site at Dubai International Airport. LTME is the 32nd member of Lufthansa Technik Group’s global network. The new facility will house workshops and offices, and will give the company independent and direct access to regional customers.
Key MRO market
Various technical services such as repairs to aircraft components including flaps, radomes, reversers and inlet cowls, as well as Aircraft-On-Ground (AOG) support through a local material support desk are to be offered in Dubai South. Richard Haas, Director Sales Africa & Middle East at Lufthansa Technik, said: “In line with our regionalization strategy, we have decided to further develop the product portfolio and the appearance of our current activities here in the Middle East.” Both measures are important prerequisites for developing a sustainable presence in the region and to compete in one of the most important Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) markets worldwide.
Competitive aviation platform
Tahnoon Saif, Vice President of Aviation District, Dubai South, welcomed the move, saying: “The Aviation District welcomes a leading global player like Lufthansa Technik. Their facilities here will give the company an operational edge in terms of becoming one of the first international suppliers in the district.” The presence of Lufthansa Technik will also help also build on the aviation platform, currently under construction, that can compete with the best in the world.
Future demand is decisive
LTME will provide materials, spare parts, and engine wash services for commercial and VIP customers. The additional capabilities are being evalutated at present and will depend on customer requirements in future. Operations will continue at the present LTME site at Dubai International Airport.
